087 New Radiants, New Suns, New Flames: The Road to Year Five
Hey everyone! Kyle here, checking in from Los Angeles, where—for the first time in what feels like the entirety of 2025—I have not been living out of a suitcase.
The Bears are somehow 6–3, I’m making really good headway across a whole slate of projects, and this past month marks the longest stretch without getting on a plane I’ve had all year. Unfortunately/fortunately, that streak ends spectacularly in just a few weeks when we fly to Brazil for CCXP—my first time back in a decade, and my first-ever trip to São Paulo. I’m ridiculously excited. We’ve got Marcelo, Eduardo, Rod Reis, Rod Fernandes, Abel and Kelly McMahon. It’s going to be an incredible weekend of meeting Massive-Verse fans, Power Rangers fans, and hopefully not melting in the humidity.
But before we hop hemispheres, we’ve got a lot to talk about today:
New Radiant Black. New Rogue Sun. New Inferno Girl Red.
Plus a mountain of updates from NYCC, new trailers, new covers, new promos, and a few surprises we’ve been sitting on for way too long.
Let’s dive in!
COMMUNITY & CONVENTIONS
Massive-Verse Live! — November 17
Tonight, November 17th, we’ll be live at 6pm PST on the Massive-Verse YouTube to break down all things Medieval Spawn and Rogue Sun! Ryan Parrott will be there, along with Michael Busuttil and myself.
In fact, we’re looking to turn 6PM on Monday nights into an ongoing thing—set your calendars now! Monday nights are for Massive-Verse Live!
CCXP BRAZIL — December 6–8
As I mentioned up top, we’ll be heading to South America in early December for CCXP in São Paulo.
If you’re attending, you’ll find me all weekend with the full crew—Marcelo Costa, Eduardo Ferigato, Rod Reis, Rod Fernandes, Abel, and Kelly McMahon. Expect signings, hopefully some panels, and—by the looks of it—the biggest convention energy on the planet.
Cannot. Wait.
INFERNO GIRL RED — BOOK TWO BEGINS
Inferno Girl Red Book Two, Chapter One
It’s finally here—the next chapter of Cássia’s story, and easily one of the most thematically ambitious arcs Mat, Erica, Igor, Becca, Michael and the IGR team have ever tackled.
The first chapter of Inferno Girl Red Book Two hits comic book stands on December 3 and, as you’ll see in a second, is adorned by a host of killer covers.
If Book One was about finding belief when everything feels lost, Book Two is about what happens after you find it… and how easily it can warp into something dangerous.
As Mat put it in a recent conversation:
“In book one, Cássia was struggling to find that sense of belief and hope. In book two, she now has that—
and the danger she’s facing is not knowing how to modulate it.
What is self-belief and what is self-delusion?
What is believing you have power to make a difference
and what is believing that you’re a god?”
Cássia has never been stronger or more certain of her purpose. That’s the good news.
The bad news? When you finally feel powerful enough to change the world, the line between hero and myth becomes razor thin.
And Book Two places her directly on that tightrope.
We’ve also got a brand-new promo video voiced by Cristina Vee—yep, Miraculous Ladybug and Sailor Mars herself! And she absolutely crushed it!

Kickstarter Hardcovers
While Inferno Girl Red Book Two, Chapter One is heading to comic shops on December 3, we also have good news for our Kickstarter backers:
The Book Two hardcovers are almost here.
We’re just waiting on the shipment to clear customs and then fulfillment begins.
We’re close—very close—and as soon as the books land in our hands, they’ll start heading out in waves over the next few weeks.
Thank you all for your patience and enthusiasm. These hardcovers turned out beautifully, and we can’t wait for you to finally hold them.

RADIANT BLACK — THE GOV. HAS A PLAN
Radiant Black #39
FOC: Monday, November 24
On Sale: December 17
So, the government backs the Second Earthers! That can’t be terrible or anything, right? Old allies (or enemies?!) return. And! Marshall finds himself facing a question with no clean answer:
What does he believe?
And how far is he willing to go?
And if that wasn’t vague enough for you, check out these evergreen covers!
But in all seriousness, this is a big turning point issue for us as things between Marshall and Mariposa start to build in the wake of the Franklin Group’s overreach. Plus, issue 39 very much does mark the return of an old ally (or enemy!).
Excited for everyone to see where this takes us next!

Multimedia:
And if you missed it last week, we dropped our Radiant Black #38 Recap Stream—a perfect primer for everything coming in #39.
NYCC RECAP — MASSIVE EDITIONS, TRAILERS & YEAR FIVE
So, as alluded to up top, NYCC was a huge one for us this year. I’ve got too many photos to count (or sort) but one day I will and then the joke will be on you, won’t it? As you have to scroll through these gloriously epic renditions of the big apple…
In the meantime, how about some NYCC stuff specific to our Massive-Verse. Ready?
Radiant Black Massive Edition — NYCC Exclusive
Our NYCC exclusive edition of Radiant Black Massive Edition Book One went over like gangbusters! For those who missed it, the special edition came with:
A new dust jacket
Blacklight remarque (by me!)
Blacklight keychain
Foil issue of your choice
We sold out of our show stock, which led to a handful of orders that I took to fulfill after the show. (More on this in a minute!)
That said, we also offered a variant version (no blacklight Remarque) for pre-order ahead of the show. If you pre-ordered one of these, some news— we’ve been waiting on the last batch of bookplates, but they’re finally en route. Orders will ship in the next few weeks!
Massive Edition Book Two
Also showed off at NYCC for the first time was Radiant Black Massive Edition Book Two!
Similar to Book One, this hardcover includes the next twelve issues of the story… plus all 32 pages of our SHIFT stories, slotted in their proper placement throughout, and another 50+ pages of back matter anchored by over 6,000 words of new interviews.
And also similar to Book One, we’re going to offer an even rarer version of this HC. Matching Book One, the Black Market Narrative Exclusive Edition will be limited to 150 copies (sans APs) and will feature an original dust jacket (by Goni Montes), as well as a signed and numbered bookplate (by Marcelo and myself).
We’ll have more news on this in the coming weeks, and, once again, they’ll be available to purchase exclusive through this newsletter! So, definitely a great time to make sure you’re subscribed.
Radiant Black Day Announced — February 10, 2026
One of the other things that came out of NYCC was the announcement of what we’re calling Radiant Black Day for next year! February 10, 2026 marks exactly five years since we launched the book and we thought it was the perfect point to coalesce a host of special Radiant Black events. First up, releasing that week:
A brand-new B/W edition of Radiant Black Issue #1
We’re going back to press on Radiant Black #1 but this time, we’re using a few less inks. Radiant Black and White #1 features the entire issue 1 in black and white along with the full script. It’s 48 pages long and showcases the book in a really cool new way.
And to mark the occasion, we’re bringing back David Finch and Jimmy Reyes’ gorgeous cover for issue 1.
Along with a 1:10 incentive variant featuring just Dave’s pencils.
The audiobook release
And speaking of cool new ways to experience Radiant Black, we’ll also be releasing volume one of Radiant Black: The Audiobook on Radiant Black Day. The book is about 90% recorded and editorial is going well. I’m cutting and designing everything myself, which is a pretty huge undertaking. But it’s been a blast.
In fact, here’s a little snippet from chapter one— this is currently just dry dialogue. The finished book will have narration, sound effects, music, etc. But, to give you an idea…
That’s Kim Rhodes, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle! Pretty cool, right?
Everyone has knocked their character out of the park but I’ve got to give a special shoutout to Will and Rider, who’s thirty years of chemistry show up in every scene.
Radiant Black x Revenge Of party
And to celebrate all of this, our friends at Revenge Of will be hosting a party! We’ll have more news on this in the coming weeks but I promise— it’ll be an experience.
SALES & SPECIAL DROPS
Radiant Black x Gonkbonk
We’re opening the vault!
In the coming weeks, we’ll be releasing a curated selection of rare books from my personal collection. Newsletter subscribers will get first access!
This is my favorite time of year. LA finally gets what passes for a “season change,” football is on four days a week, and while we’re wrapping up all the wild, time-sensitive work that closes out the year, we’re already dreaming up everything that 2026 can be.
Also: the food.
Halloween → Thanksgiving → Christmas → New Years is an absolute murderers row of holiday eating.
But it’s also a tough stretch for a lot of people. So please—take care of yourselves, check in on friends, and give yourself some grace.
Until next time—
Stay Radiant!
Kyle

Between the Radiant Black and White one-shot, the release of the audiobook of volume 1, and an entire party hosted at "Revenge Of", I can't think of any other way to celebrate 5 years of one of the most exciting books in all of comics. Gosh, has it been that long already?
Kim Rhodes?! KIM RHODES oh my goodness literally jumping up and down I could not be more excited for this audiobook.
